‘Work of Art’ / Dion Horstmans

‘Work of Art’ is an ongoing series of films that dives deep into mental wellness through the perspectives of the creative community. We meet a broad range of creators, curators, therapists and patients to discuss the relationship between mental wellness and creativity.

Creatives are often emotionally heightened individuals, it’s this sensitivity that makes them great storytellers, allowing them to engage with a viewer on a deep level. Every artwork created by an artist has their DNA embedded in it, obvious or not, the folio of an artist is an embodiment of the individual. A true reflection of who they were and how they were feeling at the time of the creation of the work. I think creatives deal with mental wellbeing in a unique way, quite literally putting their emotions on the page for all to see.

— Each film is attributed to the generosity of the creative community offering their time and skills to make each film come to life. A showing of good faith in the importance of sharing these stories.

Dion was a force of nature, an icon in Bondi, known for his towering stature, big personality, and incredible metal sculptures. More than an artist, he left a lasting legacy of art and inspiration. Tragically, Dion passed away in February, but his spirit lives on through his work and community impact.
